Is cutting the trees of the sanctuary forbidden?
Chapter on What the Muhrim Must Avoid and What is Permissible for Him
Al-Mughni
Book of Hajj
Primary text
There is a consensus among scholars regarding the prohibition of cutting the trees of the sanctuary. The evidence for this prohibition is established by the narration of Ibn 'Abbas. Furthermore, Abu Shurayh and Abu Hurayrah narrated similar accounts. Specifically, the narration of Abu Hurayrah states explicitly, 'Indeed, this sanctuary of mine is sacred until this hour; its thorns shall not be plucked, nor its trees felled.' The narration of Abu Shurayh, from the day of the Conquest, states that it is not permissible for anyone who believes in God and the Last Day to shed blood therein or cut down a tree.
