Primary text
The Day of the Greater Hajj is the Day of Sacrifice (Yawm an-Nahr). The Prophet, peace be upon him, stated this in his sermon on the Day of Sacrifice: "This is the Day of the Greater Hajj." This day is so named because of the abundance of Hajj rituals performed on it, including standing at the Sacred Monument (Muzdalifah), departing from there to Mina, the stoning (Ramy), the sacrifice (Nahr), shaving the head (Halaq), the Tawaf al-Ifadah, and returning to Mina for the overnight stay (Mabit). No other day of Hajj involves such a concentration of acts. Furthermore, this day is the Eid day and the day upon which the state of Ihram (for Hajj) is lifted.
