Primary text

The designated Miqat for the people of the Mashriq is Dhat 'Irq, according to the majority of scholars, which is the position of Malik, Abu Thawr, and the People of Opinion (*Ashab al-Ra'y*). Evidence for Dhat 'Irq being the Miqat for the people of Iraq is narrated from Aisha and Jabir, attributed to the Prophet (peace be upon him). Furthermore, it is narrated that 'Umar ibn al-Khattab designated Dhat 'Irq for them when they requested a Miqat nearer than Qarn.

Some scholars, including Al-Shafi'i, Ibn al-Mundhir, and Ibn 'Abd al-Barr, preferred Al-'Aqiq as the Miqat for the people of Iraq, citing a Hadith narrated by Ibn Abbas. Ibn 'Abd al-Barr considers Al-'Aqiq to be more appropriate and safer than Dhat 'Irq, although Dhat 'Irq is accepted by consensus as *a* Miqat.
