Primary text

It is recommended to enter Makkah from its upper part (A'la). This is established by the action of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, who entered Makkah from the upper pass (Ath-Thaniyyah) in Al-Batha' and exited from the lower pass. Aisha narrated that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, entered from the upper part and exited from the lower part. Both narrations are agreed upon (Muttafaqun 'alayhima). There is no prohibition against entering by night or day, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, entered Makkah both during the night and the day.
