Is game hunted for one person in Ihram permissible for another person in Ihram to eat?
Chapter on What the Muhrim Must Avoid and What is Permissible for Him
Al-Mughni
Book of Hajj
Primary text
There is a strong indication that game hunted for one person in Ihram is forbidden for another person in Ihram to consume. This is derived from the statement attributed to Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), 'Feed it to a lawful person, as I am forbidden,' implying restriction. Additionally, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said regarding Abu Qatada's incident, 'Did any of you order it to be carried or point towards it?' When they replied no, he said, 'Then eat it.' The implication (mafhum) of this statement is that the indication or instruction of even one person renders the game forbidden for them.
Supporting text
The view supporting permissibility for another Muhrim is based on the apparent meaning of the saying, 'Game of the land is lawful for you, unless you hunted it or it was hunted for you,' suggesting that if it was hunted for a specific individual (the first Muhrim), it is lawful for another Muhrim who was not the intended recipient.
