Primary text

Game hunted specifically for a person in the state of Ihram, or game that was indicated or assisted in hunting for them, is permissible for a non-Muhrim to consume. This ruling is supported by the statement attributed to Ali, commanding that it be fed to a lawful person ('At'imuhu halalan'). Furthermore, the tradition concerning the game presented by Sa'b ibn Jathama, where the Prophet (peace be upon him) returned the game to him but did not forbid him from eating it, establishes permissibility. Since it is game hunted lawfully (i.e., by a non-Muhrim or for one), it is permissible for the non-Muhrim to eat, analogous to game hunted by a non-Muhrim for himself.

Supporting text

The permissibility of a fellow Muhrim consuming such game is debatable. The apparent meaning of the tradition states that land game is lawful for you unless you hunted it or it was hunted for you, which supports permissibility for another Muhrim. This aligns with the action of Uthman ibn Affan (may Allah be pleased with him), who was gifted game while in Ihram; he told his companions to eat it, but he refrained, stating it was hunted specifically for him. Thus, because it was not hunted for the second Muhrim, it is permissible for him, just as if a non-Muhrim hunted it for himself.
