Primary text

Ghusl is legislated for women when entering Ihram, just as it is for men, because it is a rite (Nusk). This requirement is even more emphasized for the menstruating or postpartum woman due to specific narrations. The Prophet (peace be upon him) commanded Asma' bint 'Umais, while she was postpartum following childbirth, to perform Ghusl, tie a cloth (Istithfar), and then enter Ihram. Similarly, the Prophet (peace be upon him) ordered 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) to perform Ghusl for entering the Hajj Ihram while she was menstruating. Furthermore, it is narrated from Ibn 'Abbas that the menstruating and postpartum woman, upon reaching the time limit, must perform Ghusl, enter Ihram, and perform all rites except the Tawaf around the House (Ka'bah).

Supporting text

If a menstruating or postpartum woman expects purity before leaving the Miqat (boundary), it is recommended for her to delay the Ghusl until she is purified so that her state is more complete. However, if she fears departing before purification, she performs Ghusl and enters Ihram.
