Why is Hajj not obligatory upon a slave (Abd)?

Hajj is not obligatory upon a slave because it is an act of worship requiring a long duration, necessitating travel over a distance, and requiring the ability (Istita'ah) regarding provisions (Zad) and means of transport (Rahilah). Performing it would also lead to the neglect of his master's rights concerning him, similar to Jihad not being obligatory upon him.
