Is it obligatory to give the hide and coverings (Jalāl) of the sacrificial animal away?
Chapter on the Description of Hajj
Al-Mughni
Book of Hajj
Primary text
The hides and coverings of the sacrificial animal must be distributed, as established in the reports concerning the division. This is because the animal was dedicated to God with that specific condition, and thus, nothing designated for God should be withheld.
Supporting text
Some jurists hold that giving the coverings (Jalāl) is not obligatory, asserting that only the animal itself was offered as a gift, not what was upon it.
