Is it permissible to cut dry wood or vegetation from trees?
Chapter on What the Muhrim Must Avoid and What is Permissible for Him
Al-Mughni
Book of Hajj
Primary text
It is permissible to cut dry wood and vegetation from trees because they are considered like dead things. Furthermore, it is permissible to cut parts that have broken off but not yet detached, as they are deemed ruined, similar to a broken nail. It is also permissible to benefit from branches that have fallen or been uprooted without human action, as well as fallen leaves. Ahmad is cited as the authority for this ruling, and no known disagreement exists on this point because the relevant prohibition only addresses the act of cutting, not the utilization of what is already detached or dead.
