Primary text

It is permissible for a Muhrim to use any kohl that does not contain perfume, as reported from Ibn Umar. Malik stated that there is no issue if a Muhrim uses kohl, including ithmid, due to discomfort from heat in the eyes. Ahmad held that a Muhrim may use kohl, provided the intention is not for adornment, applicable to both men and women.

Supporting text

Evidence suggesting dislike comes from the report that when Ali returned from Yemen and found Fatima had exited Ihram, she wore dyed clothing and applied kohl. Ali initially objected, but the Prophet, peace be upon him, confirmed her statement that her father (the Prophet) had instructed her to do so, indicating that such acts were generally prohibited for the Muhrim at that time. This implies a restriction on the Muhrim regarding adornment.
