Is it permissible to perform Umrah multiple times within a single year?
General Chapter
Al-Mughni
Book of Hajj
Primary text
Performing Umrah multiple times within a year is permissible. This view is supported by Ali, Ibn Umar, Ibn Abbas, Anas, Aisha, Atāʼ, Tāwūs, ʻIkrima, and Al-Shāfiʻī. The evidence for this permissibility is found in the action of Aisha, who performed two Umrahs in one month by the command of the Prophet (peace be upon him)—one as part of her Qirān Hajj and another after completing her Hajj. Furthermore, the Prophet (peace be upon him) stated, "Umrah leading to the next Umrah atones for whatever is between them" (Muttafaq 'alayh). Ali stated that one Umrah per month is permissible, and Anas would perform Umrah whenever he had his hair trimmed.

The view held by Al-Hasan and Ibn Sīrīn, as well as Mālik, is that performing Umrah twice in a year is disliked (*Makrūh*). Al-Nakhaʻī stated that the Companions only performed Umrah once per year, citing the precedent that the Prophet (peace be upon him) himself did not perform it more than once in a year.
