Seeking shade using a roof, wall, tree, or tent is permissible for a person in Ihram according to all scholars. This is supported by authenticated transmission, such as the narration of Jabir regarding the Prophet's Farewell Pilgrimage where a tent made of hair with a Numurrah cloth was set up for him at Arafat, and the Prophet descended there until the sun passed its zenith. This was reported by Muslim, Ibn Majah, and others. Furthermore, it is permissible to set up a cloth to shield oneself from the sun or cold, either held by a person or raised on a pole. This is supported by the hadith of Umm al-Husayn, where Bilal or Usamah held up a cloth to shield the Prophet from the heat. Since this temporary sheltering is not intended for permanence, it carries no prohibition, similar to seeking shade by a wall.
