Primary text

It is permissible to use a garment if its fragrance has been completely removed due to prolonged time or being dyed with a non-fragrant substance, to the extent that sprinkling water upon it yields no odor. This ruling is held by Sa'id ibn al-Musayyib, Al-Hasan, Al-Nakha'i, Al-Shafi'i, Abu Thawr, and the companions of *Ahl al-Ra'i* (people of opinion). This view is also narrated from 'Ata' and Tawus. The prohibition is lifted because the reason for its prohibition, which is the fragrance, has entirely ceased.

Supporting text

Malik disliked its use unless it was washed to the extent that its color also disappeared, due to the presence of the essence of saffron or similar substances in it.
