Primary text

It is prohibited to wear sandals that have an ankle strap (*qayd*), and this prohibition extends to items such as *al-Lalikah* and *al-Jumjum*, which are considered stricter than sandals with ankle straps. Furthermore, wearing sandals that cover the entire foot, shaped to the foot like a shoe (*khuff*), is also prohibited. However, if regular shoes (*na'layn*) are unavailable, wearing these lesser coverings is permitted without incurring the penalty (*fidiyah*). This ruling is established because the Prophet, peace be upon him, permitted wearing the *khuff* (leather sock) under such conditions, and what is lesser than the *khuff* is more permissible.
