Primary text

It is recommended for a person for whom Hajj is not obligatory to perform it, provided that doing so does not cause harm to others. This is permissible if the individual can manage the journey through means such as working (like bead-making), receiving financial support from someone who sponsors him, or hiring transport for provisions, while strictly abstaining from begging people. The recommendation is based on the Divine saying, "That they may come to you on foot and upon every lean camel" (Quran 22:27), due to the precedence given to those on foot (men). Furthermore, performing Hajj in this manner represents an excess in obedience to Almighty God and avoids differences of opinion on the matter.
