Primary text

It is recommended that the person offering the Hady slaughters the animal with their own hand. This is based on the precedent of the Prophet, peace be upon him, who slaughtered his Hady with his hand. In the Farewell Pilgrimage, the Prophet, peace be upon him, directed Ali to take hold of the bottom of the spear while the Prophet took hold of the top, and they both struck the camels. This was done because the Prophet included Ali in his Hady. Jabir reported that the Prophet slaughtered sixty-three camels with his hand and then gave the remainder to Ali to slaughter. It is also narrated that the Prophet slaughtered five camels and then said, "Whoever wishes, may take a piece."
