Is it recommended to visit the grave of the Prophet (peace be upon him)?
Chapter on Ransom (Fidyah) and Penalty for Hunting
Al-Mughni
Book of Hajj
Primary text
The visit to the grave of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, is recommended. Evidence supporting this includes the report from Al-Daraqutni, based on Ibn Umar, stating that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever performs Hajj and then visits my grave after my death, it is as if he visited me during my lifetime." Another narration states: "Whoever visits my grave, my intercession becomes due for him." Furthermore, a narration attributed to Abu Hurairah states that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "There is no one who sends peace upon me at my grave except that Allah returns my soul to me until I return the greeting of peace to him."
Supporting text
Ahmed stated, in one narration, that if someone performs Hajj who has never done so before (and not via the route of Sham/Levant), they should not take the route via Medina, as there is a fear that an unforeseen event might occur to them. Therefore, they should aim for Mecca via the shortest route and not occupy themselves with other matters.
