There are two narrations concerning whether the Mahram is obligated to respond to her request to accompany her. The correct position is that the Mahram is not obligated to perform Hajj with her. This is because Hajj involves severe hardship and great expense, which is not obligatory for one person solely for the sake of another, just as it is not obligatory for him to perform Hajj on her behalf if she is ill.
