Must a menstruating or post-natal bleeding woman repeat Tawaf al-Wada' if she is unable to perform it?
Chapter on the Description of Hajj
Al-Mughni
Book of Hajj
Primary text
The ruling is that the woman should remain until she is pure to perform Tawaf al-Wada', and she does not have to offer expiation (fidyah). This is the opinion of the majority of the jurists in the cities. This is supported by the actions attributed to 'Umar and his son, who commanded a menstruating woman to remain for Tawaf al-Wada'. Furthermore, the evidence from the Hadith of Safiyyah indicates that she was permitted to depart while menstruating after she had already performed Tawaf al-Ifadah on the Day of Sacrifice, and the Prophet (peace be upon him) did not command her to offer expiation or anything else. The ruling for a woman experiencing post-natal bleeding (Nifas) is the same as for a menstruating woman, as the rulings of Nifas are identical to those of Hayd regarding what is necessitated and what is waived.

Zayd ibn Thabit initially held the view that a menstruating woman should not depart until her last act was the House, but he later retracted this opinion after being corrected by Ibn 'Abbas based on a question to a woman whom the Prophet (peace be upon him) had instructed. Ibn 'Umar also reportedly returned to the position of the majority.
