What is the Miqat for someone whose residence is closer to Makkah than the established Miqat?
General Chapter
Al-Mughni
Book of Hajj
Primary text
If one's residence is closer to Makkah than the designated Miqat, the residence itself becomes the Miqat. This is the position held by the majority of scholars, including Malik, Tawus, Al-Shafi'i, Abu Thawr, and the Ahl al-Ra'y. The Prophet (peace be upon him) stated in the Hadith of Ibn Abbas: 'For those who are nearer than these [Miqats], their Ihram point is from their own households.' This text is explicit, and adherence to it is preferred.
Supporting text
Mujahid held that Ihram should be from Makkah, but this is deemed incorrect based on the explicit Hadith concerning those residing closer than the Miqats.
