Primary text

If one travels a path situated between two Miqats, one must exert effort (Ijtihad) to assume Ihram from the alignment parallel to the nearer of the two Miqats. This is supported by the incident where 'Umar, upon the complaint of the people of Iraq regarding Qarn being off their route, directed them to set a Miqat parallel to their route, establishing Dhat 'Irq. Since this matter involves estimation and measurement, Ijtihad applies when there is ambiguity, similar to determining the Qiblah.
