Which predatory animals and pests are permissible to kill while in the state of Ihram (Haram or outside)?
Chapter on What the Muhrim Must Avoid and What is Permissible for Him
Al-Mughni
Book of Hajj
Primary text
The majority of scholars, including Al-Thawri, Al-Shafi'i, Ishaq, and the People of Opinion (Ashaab ar-Ra'y), permit the killing of the vicious dog (al-Kalb al-'Aqur), and any creature that attacks or harms the pilgrim or their property. This permission extends to animals mentioned in the hadith of the five ferocious animals (Fawasig): the serpent, the piebald crow (al-Ghurab al-Abqa'), the mouse, the vicious dog, and the kite (al-Huda'ah). The general permission derived from Aisha's narration authorizing the killing of these five in both the Haram and outside is considered more sound than the limited narration.

A view attributed to Al-Nakh'i prohibited killing the mouse. Furthermore, some scholars restrict the permission to only the piebald crow among crows because the specific hadith mentioning the five Fawasig limits the crow to that specific type. Another interpretation limits the permissibility only to creatures that initiate aggression against the pilgrim's person or property in the present moment.
