Primary text

The preferred time for the Tawaf al-Ifadah is the Day of Sacrifice (Yawm an-Nahr) after the stoning (Ramy), the sacrifice (Nahr), and the shaving/trimming of the hair (Halaq). Evidence for this is found in the narration of Jabir regarding the description of the Prophet's pilgrimage on the Day of Sacrifice: that he performed Tawaf to the Kaaba and prayed the Dhuhr prayer in Mecca. Similarly, Aisha narrated that they performed Tawaf on the Day of Sacrifice. Ibn Umar also reported that the Prophet performed Tawaf on the Day of Sacrifice and then returned to pray Dhuhr. These narrations are agreed upon (Muttafaq 'alayhima).

Supporting text

It is permissible to delay the Tawaf until the night following the Day of Sacrifice, as Ibn Abbas and Aisha narrated that the Prophet delayed the Tawaf of Visit until the night. Abu Dawud and Al-Tirmidhi narrated these traditions, with Al-Tirmidhi grading them as Hasan (good).
