What is the prescribed conduct concerning prayers and stay in Mina during the Day of Tarwiyah?
Chapter on the Description of Hajj
Al-Mughni
Book of Hajj
Primary text
It is recommended that a pilgrim intending Hajj depart from Mecca assuming Ihram on the Day of Tarwiyah, proceed to Mina, and there pray the Dhuhr prayer, remaining there until after the five obligatory prayers (Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, Isha, and Fajr) are performed there, and spending the night there. This practice is established by the action of the Prophet (PBUH) as narrated by Jabir. This is the position of Sufyan, Malik, Al-Shafi'i, Ishaq, and the Ashab al-Ra'y (Hanafi scholars). This stay and performing the five prayers in Mina is not obligatory according to these scholars.
