Primary text

Upon leaving the Kaaba, one must stand facing it while bidding farewell (*wada'a*). After turning away, one should not stop or look back. If one looks back, the prescribed action is to return and repeat the farewell salutation. Ahmad considered looking back at the Kaaba after turning away to be disliked (*makruh*). Mujahid permitted looking back at the Kaaba while exiting the mosque and making the supplication, "O Allah, do not make this my last visit to the House."

Jābir ibn ‘Abd Allāh strongly disapproved of turning back to face the Kaaba and pray upon departing, suggesting such an act resembles the practice of Jews and Christians.
