Primary text
The Talbiyah of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, is: 'Labbayka Allahumma Labbayk, Labbayka la sharika laka Labbayk, Inna al-hamda wa an-ni’mata laka wa al-mulk, la sharika lak.' This wording is established in the Sahihayn (Bukhari and Muslim) through narrations from Ibn Umar, and also narrated by Al-Bukhari from Aisha and Muslim from Jabir. The term 'Talbiyah' derives from 'labba bil-makan,' meaning one adheres or stays firmly in the place, implying the pilgrim declares they are remaining in obedience and command, not straying from it. Repeating the Talbiyah signifies successive stations or confirmations of obedience, similar to saying 'Hananayk,' meaning mercy after mercy.
