What was the Prophet's reaction after entering the Ka'bah on one occasion?

The Prophet (peace be upon him), upon exiting the Ka'bah on a certain occasion, returned distressed, stating that if he had known what he would face later, he would not have entered, fearing that entering might have caused undue hardship ('شققت') upon his Ummah. This narration is reported by Abu Dawud.
