Is Ramal required for a person performing Tawaf while riding?

If one performs Tawaf while riding or being carried, Ramal (brisk walking in the first three circuits) is not required. This is the sounder view because the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) neither performed nor commanded it in that state, and the intended meaning of Ramal cannot be achieved while riding.

Al-Qadi suggested that the animal should be made to trot (Yukhabb). This is less sound.
