Is the Rami valid if the stone used is impure (najis)?
Chapter on the Description of Hajj
Al-Mughni
Book of Hajj
Primary text
The Rami is valid even if the stone is impure, because it is fundamentally a pebble (hasah).
Supporting text
There is a potential view that it is not valid, because the stone is used to perform an act of worship, thus requiring purity, similar to stones used for Istinjmar (cleansing after relieving oneself) or the soil used for Tayammum. If the stone is washed and then thrown, the Rami is valid unanimously.
