Primary text

It is recommended to visit the well of Zamzam, drink its water as desired, and drink deeply from it until one is completely satisfied (tadal'a). Evidence for this practice is found in the description of the Prophet's Hajj by Jabir, where he was given a bucket of water from the well of Bani Abd Al-Muttalib and drank from it. Furthermore, it is reported that the Prophet said, "Zamzam water is for whatever it is drunk for." Ibn Abbas instructed a man who drank from it to face the Ka'bah, mention the name of Allah, take three breaths while drinking, and drink deeply. Upon finishing, one should praise Allah, as the Prophet stated, "The sign between us and the hypocrites is that they do not drink deeply from Zamzam." These latter narrations are found in Ibn Majah.

Supporting text

When drinking, one should supplicate, saying, "In the name of Allah. O Allah, make it a beneficial sign for us, abundant provision, quenching thirst, satiety, healing from every disease, cleanse my heart with it, and fill it with Your wisdom."
