Primary text

It is recommended that a person assuming Ihram for Hajj from Mecca performs the same rituals associated with assuming Ihram from a Miqat station. This includes performing Ghusl (ritual bathing), cleaning oneself, disrobing from sewn garments (Mikhayt), performing Tawaf seven times, and praying two rak'ahs, assuming Ihram immediately following these two rak'ahs. This view is held by Ata, Mujahid, Sa'id bin Jubayr, Al-Thawri, Al-Shafi'i, Ishaq, and Ibn al-Mundhir.

Supporting text

It is not recommended to perform Tawaf after assuming Ihram for Hajj, according to Ibn Abbas, Ata, Malik, and Ishaq. If one performs Tawaf after Ihram and then performs Sa'i, this does not suffice for the obligatory Sa'i in Hajj, according to Malik. Al-Shafi'i holds that it does suffice, as this was done by Ibn Zubayr and considered permissible by Al-Qasim bin Muhammad and Ibn al-Mundhir, equating it to Sa'i performed after returning from Mina.
