What is the recommended source for collecting the pebbles (Hasā) for the stoning ritual?

It is recommended to collect the pebbles from Muzdalifah. However, the soundest opinion is that collecting the pebbles from wherever one wishes is sufficient, based on the command of the Prophet (peace be upon him) to Al-Fadl ibn 'Abbas to gather seven pebbles for him, which occurred in Mina. Collecting the pebbles is preferred over breaking stones, to avoid potential harm from flying debris.

Al-Shafi'i and some others recommended collecting them from Muzdalifah. Ahmad and others hold that collecting them from anywhere is permissible.
