What is the required form of compensation for game, other than pigeons, that is destroyed?
Chapter on Ransom (Fidyah) and Penalty for Hunting

Book of Hajj
Primary text
The compensation for destroyed birds, excluding pigeons, must be their monetary value because the foundation for liability is compensation by equivalent or by its value, as seen in other liable matters. However, this foundation is set aside by explicit textual evidence. Therefore, for everything else, the monetary value is obligatory according to the implication of the evidence. The value is assessed at the location where the destruction occurred, just as if the property of a human being was destroyed at the location of its destruction.
