Book of Hajj
Primary text
The obligatory expiation for shaving the hair is that which is mentioned in the Hadith of Ka'b ibn 'Ujrah. The Prophet, peace be upon him, instructed him to 'Shave your head, then fast for three days, or feed six poor people, half a Sa' for each poor person, or sacrifice a sheep.' This is established by consensus of Mujahid, Al-Nakha'i, Abu Mijlaz, Al-Shafi'i, Malik, and the People of Opinion (Ahl al-Ra'y). The measure of grain (wheat) sufficient for each poor person is half a Sa', while the measure for dates or barley is one full Sa'. Following the Sunnah is superior.
