Primary text
If the pilgrim is not accustomed to using simple gear or fears falling from it, the presence of a howdah (mahmal) or similar conveyance is considered, provided it is comfortable to ride and guards against falling. This consideration is based on the principle that requiring a riding animal for one capable of walking is to repel undue hardship; thus, here the means by which hardship is repelled must be considered.
