Primary text

Ritual purity, concealment (sitr), facing the Qibla, and intention (niyyah) are not prerequisites for the Standing at Arafat. There is no known disagreement on this matter. Consensus exists among scholars whose views are recorded that whoever experiences the Standing at Arafat while not being ritually pure has completed the Hajj and incurs no penalty. The command given by the Prophet, peace be upon him, to Aisha, instructing her to perform all pilgrim rites except circumambulation while menstruating, serves as evidence that standing at Arafat without purity is permissible, as Aisha stood there while menstruating by the Prophet's order.

Supporting text

It is recommended to be in a state of purity for the Standing. Ahmad recommended that one should witness all rites in a state of ablution. Al-Attah stated that no rite should be performed without ablution.
