What is the ruling for abandoning less than a whole Jamrah in stoning?
Chapter on the Description of Hajj
Al-Mughni
Book of Hajj
Primary text
The apparent view from Ahmad is that there is no penalty for abandoning one pebble or two pebbles. Another narration from Ahmad suggests giving some form of charity, whatever it may be. Another view, which is the madhhab of Malik and Al-Layth, states that a sacrifice is due for every pebble left, based on the saying of Ibn Abbas: Whoever abandons any of his rites, a sacrifice is due upon him.
Supporting text
One narration holds that for the three Jamarat, a sacrifice is due, and for less than that, a Mudd of staple food is due for every pebble. Another view suggests a Dirham, and yet another suggests half a Dirham. Abu Hanifa stated that if the stoning of Jamrat al-'Aqaba or all the Jamarat are abandoned, a sacrifice is due; otherwise, for every pebble left, half a Sa' is due until it amounts to a sacrifice.
