Primary text

The apparent position of Ahmad and the school of Al-Shafi'i dictates that the commander bears the full expense, receiving no deduction, despite the deviation regarding the Ihram starting point (from Miqat instead of Mecca).

Supporting text

Al-Qadi holds that half of the expenditure should be returned to the commander because the commander's intent involved the specific merit of 'Umrah Mufradah (as part of Tamattu), which was negated or altered by the performance of Qiran.
