What is the ruling concerning an impairment occurring to a Hady after it has been laid down for slaughter?
Chapter on Ransom (Fidyah) and Penalty for Hunting
Al-Mughni
Book of Hajj
Primary text
If a dedicated Hady becomes impaired after being laid down for slaughter, the slaughter remains valid. The proof is that if the animal perished entirely, no compensation would be due; therefore, impairment, which is less than complete loss, should be accepted. Furthermore, the impairment occurred after the obligation was established, similar to an impairment occurring after the animal is laid down for slaughter.

Abu Hanifa rules that the slaughter is invalid unless the impairment occurs after the animal has been laid down for the act of slaughter.
