What is the ruling on hunting within the boundaries of the Sacred Precinct (Haram)?
Chapter on What the Muhrim Must Avoid and What is Permissible for Him
Al-Mughni
Book of Hajj
Primary text
Hunting within the Sacred Precinct is prohibited by explicit textual evidence and consensus. The Prophet, peace be upon him, stated on the day of the Conquest of Makkah that the land was made sacred by God the day He created the heavens and the earth, and this sanctity remains until the Day of Resurrection. The prohibition includes cutting down its foliage, plucking its thorns, scaring away its game, and picking up its lost items, except for one who will announce it. The consensus of the Muslims confirms the prohibition of hunting in the Haram for both those in the state of Ihram and those outside of it.
