Primary text

Omitting any portion of the Tawaf al-Ziyarah, whether a single circuit (*shawṭ*) or more, is legally equivalent to leaving the entire Tawaf undone, necessitating its completion later. This is the position of 'Ata', Mālik, al-Shāfi'ī, Isḥāq, and Abū Thawr.

Supporting text

The Companions of Ra'y (Hanafis) hold that if one completes four circuits of Tawaf al-Ziyarah or Tawaf al-'Umrah along with the Sa'y between Safā and Marwah and then returns home, the Sa'y suffices, but a penalty sacrifice (*dam*) is due for the omitted Tawaf circuits. However, the sound position is that any incomplete Tawaf in Makkah is invalid, whether performed partially or fully.
