Primary text

If the proxy performs Hajj from a location less than the distance defining travel for shortening prayers (Masafat al-Qasr), it suffices because it is considered within the ruling of a close location. If the location is farther than this distance, it does not suffice because the full obligation was not discharged.

Supporting text

There is an alternative view that performing it from a lesser distance suffices but is disliked (Musi'), similar to one who was required to enter Ihram from the Miqat but entered Ihram from a nearer point.
