Primary text

The removal of ticks (qurrad) from a camel, as exemplified by 'Umar's action of removing them and throwing them away (qard), is permissible while in Ihram. This view is supported by Jabir ibn Zayd and 'Ata. This is interpreted as the permissible removal and discarding of these pests.

A contrary report indicates that Ibn Abbas disapproved when 'Ikrimah, while in Ihram, removed ticks from a camel. Ibn Abbas then commanded him to slaughter the animal (an-nahra), and when 'Ikrimah complied, Ibn Abbas questioned him regarding the number of ticks, leeches (halama), and large ticks (hamanana) killed, indicating possible severity or disapproval in that specific instance of removal.
