What is the ruling regarding a woman performing Tawaf?
Chapter on Mentioning Hajj and Entering Makkah
Al-Mughni
Book of Hajj
Primary text
A woman is treated the same as a man in the fundamental rulings of Tawaf. However, if she arrives in Mecca during the day and is secure from menstruation or post-natal bleeding, it is recommended for her to delay the Tawaf until night for greater modesty (to be more concealed).
Supporting text
It is not recommended for her to jostle with men to touch the Black Stone; rather, she should point toward it with her hand, similar to one who cannot reach it. Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, used to perform Tawaf sequestered from men and refused to join a woman seeking to touch the Stone with her. If she fears menstruation or post-natal bleeding, it is recommended for her to hasten the Tawaf so as not to miss it.
