What is the ruling if a silver ring is used to propel a stone during Rami?
Chapter on the Description of Hajj
Al-Mughni
Book of Hajj
Primary text
If a silver ring is used to propel a stone, the Rami is invalid according to one narration. This is because the ring is the follower (tabi'), and the stoning must be performed with the primary object (the stone), not the follower.

There is an alternative view suggesting it is desirable (mustahabb), based on the narration that Ibn Umar washed the pebbles, and Tawus performed this action, as Ibn Umar sought to follow the Prophet's Sunnah. However, the correct view from Ahmad is that washing is not desirable, as it was not reported that the Prophet, peace be upon him, did so when the pebbles were collected for him while riding.
