What is the ruling on a slave shaving or cutting his hair while in Ihram?
Chapter on Ransom (Fidyah) and Penalty for Hunting
Al-Mughni
Book of Hajj
Primary text
The slave is not to shave or cut his hair during Ihram in this context or elsewhere because shaving removes hair that increases his value and property, which belongs to the master. Since the removal is not specifically required, the slave may not remove it, unlike outside the state of Ihram. If the master permits the shaving, it is permissible because the prohibition was established to protect the master's right.
