Transitioning from fasting to offering the Hady is permissible unless the person wishes otherwise. This view is held by Al-Hasan, Qatadah, Malik, and Al-Shafi'i.

Ibn Abi Nujayh, Hammad, and Ath-Thawri hold that if the person becomes affluent (aysara) before completing the three days of fasting, the Hady becomes obligatory. If they complete the three days, they must fast the seven days. Another view states that if one becomes capable of offering the Hady before the day of sacrifice (yawm an-nahr), the obligation shifts to the Hady, whether they had begun fasting or not. If they become able to afford the Hady after the days of sacrifice have passed, the fasting suffices, regardless of whether they were capable of the Hady or not, because they fulfilled the obligation during its prescribed time, making the substitute invalid, just as if they had not fasted.
