What is the ruling for a woman observing *Qiran* (combining Hajj and Umrah) who experiences menstruation before performing the Tawaf of Arrival (*Tawaf al-Qudum*) and lacks the obligation to make it up?
Chapter on the Description of Hajj
Al-Mughni
Book of Hajj
Primary text
A woman observing *Qiran* who menstruates before performing the Tawaf for Umrah is prohibited from circumambulating the House because Tawaf is considered a prayer, and she is barred from entering the Sacred Mosque. She cannot exit her state of *Ihram* for Umrah without completing the Tawaf. If she fears missing the Hajj, she must enter the Ihram for Hajj along with her Umrah Ihram, thus becoming a *Qarinah* (one performing Qiran). This is the view held by Malik, Al-Awza'i, Al-Shafi'i, and many scholars. The evidence supporting the continuation of the Umrah obligation is found in the narration of Jabir and Tawus concerning 'A'ishah, where the Prophet (peace be upon him) commanded her to perform Hajj Ihram while keeping her Umrah intact, stating that her Tawaf for Hajj would suffice for her Umrah upon purification, demonstrating that the Umrah was not entirely abandoned.

Abu Hanifah held that she must abandon the Umrah and enter Ihram solely for Hajj. Ahmad bin Hanbal strongly refuted this view, noting that the narration supporting the abandonment of Umrah, as reported by 'Urwah from 'A'ishah, is unique to 'Urwah and contradicts other narrations from 'A'ishah and the established principles. The instruction 'Leave your Umrah' is interpreted by the majority to mean leaving its immediate actions, as the Hajj actions would encompass them, or that she should leave it in its current state while entering Hajj Ihram alongside it.
