Sexual intercourse with an animal is considered similar to sexual intercourse with a human in various respects. Intercourse with an animal invalidates Hajj based on the primary reasoning that any act of intercourse necessitating ritual purification invalidates the Hajj.

Malik and Abu Hanifa hold that intercourse with an animal does not invalidate Hajj because it does not incur the prescribed punishment (hadd), making it analogous to intercourse that does not involve the proper sexual organ.
